About Me

I’m Anagha Varma, a freelance artist based in Mumbai, India. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art (BFA) from Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore (2013), and a Diploma in Animation from Toonz Academy, Trivandrum (2014). I have been a professional artist since 2015, specializing in storyboard design, and have worked as a full-time artist at various studios over the years.

I have a penchant for going against the grain of societal expectations and am fiercely unconventional. In a culture that focuses on science and engineering, I earned a formal degree in fine arts; when beauty parlours refused to shave my head for me, I did it myself anyway; and I am an avid motorcyclist, and can often be found riding around the country on my Royal Enfield, to the shock of strangers who think women can’t ride.

Having grown frustrated with the corporate agenda, I am now an independent artist experimenting with various materials and styles – illustrations, watercolour paintings, pottery, crochet, and more. I try to live with purpose and intention, and make art that both captures my unorthodox spirit and also brings me joy.

When not making art, I either read, watch movies, or train in calisthenics.

About My Work

Though I experiment with many different styles and media, I am an illustrator at heart. In my work, I try to capture the tranquil beauty of the present moment, imbuing it with my own quirky, cartoon-ish spin. Inspired by outdoor exploration and the quiet observation of nature, my work transforms the subtle beauty of everyday moments into simple illustrations with strong design and soothing color palettes. Through my art, I aim to share the sense of peace and natural wonder I find while immersed in the world around me.
